In the beginning was the Word. The Name. The Voice. The Light. And the Light touched us, woke us...
It's not enough to say woke. We weren't sleeping, my brothers and I. We were... not, we simply did not exist. But the Light shone into the nothingness, and some of the nothingness glinted in answer to that perfect Will, and we... I... awoke. Became aware.
I was.
I was things, as well-- things that we found words for later, like passionate and powerful and humorous-- traits. Vengeful. Curious. Loyal. Tall, and a snappy dresser. Hehhh.
But before any of those things, any of those gifts which came to me from the Name-- and all things, all gifts and traits, come from the Name, from You-Know-Who-- but before He gave me any of those, the first thing that came to me from His hands was simply existence. More than that. Identity. A name of my own, a name that defined me and set me apart from the darkness.
Gabriel, said the Voice. You are Gabriel, child.
That was my inheritance from my Father. Until it was taken from me, I'm sorry to say I never appreciated it...

I don't mean to interrupt, but... You mentioned something about a Light. And you sound knowledgable on the subject, so, if you don't mind, can that Light come to anyone down here? That is, is it really possible, maybe, for some Light to show itself to any of us?
Anyway, nice thing to have, a name.

It can be hard to see sometimes, can't it? This place can seem so dark. But the Light doesn't need to come down here-- It's already here. It's just a matter of opening our eyes.
Yeah, I know. I had the same expression the first time that line was given to me. But take it from one who knows-- there's no place so dark that the Light doesn't reach. The rest is up to us.
